10 Facts about Music Education

Image
Kids Music Day -   10 Facts about Music Education In my last post, I told you a bit about the overall benefits that music can have on a child, in particular with the development of their brain. So now that you are aware of the benefits, I would like to focus more on why we need music education in schools and how teaching music to children can improve their learning. Children who study music tend to have larger vocabularies and more advanced reading skills than their peers who do not participate in music lessons Children with learning disabilities or dyslexia who tend to lost focus with more noise could benefit greatly from music lessons Music programs are constantly in danger of being cut from shrinking school budgets even though they’re proven to improve academics Children who study a musical instrument are more likely to excel in all of their studies, work better in teams, have enhanced critical thinking skills, stay in school and pursue further education In the past, secondary stude

Benefits of Music

Kids Music Day - Benefits of Music We all love music and we all enjoy listening to it but do you actually know the positive benefits that it has on you… Music is EVERYWHERE!!! It’s in our theatres, our television, movies, worship, holidays, celebrations and military ceremonies. It can also become a natural part of the home as well (see previous post - Music in the Home).  A child hears music from their baby days when mothers and fathers would use music (in particular lullabies) to calm and soothe the child, to express love and joy and to engage and interact. But most parents don’t actually know that these natural instincts can help impact child development, improve social skills and even more benefits. Music and the Brain: Music can accelerate brain development (in particular with language and reading skills) Learning to play an instrument can improve mathematical learning and even increase SAT scores Music impacts intellectual, social-emotional, moor, language and overall literacy I

Children Performances

Image
Kids Music Day -  Children Performances I often think the best way to encourage music with children is by showing them other children performing and having fun with Music. I remember as a child always singing and performing which is why I believe I am so in love with music today. I took part in talent shows every holiday, I sang and danced my heart out on dance floors and became involved in almost all of the music activities I could whilst in primary and in secondary school.  This blog post isn’t going to go into too much detail or be filled with information as all I wanna do in this blog post is show children having fun and enjoying themselves with music and songs. I hope you enjoy these videos and you can always find more online.  Britains Got Talent - SOS from the Kids :               Britains Got Talent - Fayth Ifil    :                            Hairspray by Kids by the Swingers Dance   :            Top 5 Best Kids Street Piano Performances   :          Best of the Voice Kids 202

Music in the Home

Image
Kids Music Day - In the Home At the end of this week, people will be celebrating Kids Music Day on October 2nd. In recognition of this, I have made 5 posts which I will upload each day this week in order to encourage and advertise music with children. Kids Music Day is all about encouraging and celebrating the use of music with children. Each year, music is being less valued in schools and taught to less students each year. In fact, 60% said the Ebacc introduction directly affected music provision in their school and recent findings from the Education Policy Institute showed that arts entries at GCSE were declining. Enough of the statistics and facts because I’m not here to bore you. Instead, in this article I aim to show to you some of the ways that you can bring music into your home. The first step of encouraging music with children in schools is getting children interested into music in the first place!!!! So what can you do to bring music to home (this could be handy if we enter

Kids Music Day

Kids Music Day! More and More each day, music is becoming less valued in people’s lives and in particular in school. Government and teachers prioritise lessons such as Maths and English which don’t get me wrong are 100% necessary and compulsory in schools. But this priority comes at a price!!! As a result, teaching music is dramatically decreasing in schools. This led to Vincent James and Joann Pierdomenico founded the ‘Keep Music Alive’ campaign to help provide children with the opportunity of learning music.  KIDS MUSIC DAY is celebrated in October to promote the use of music with children and promoting the importance of teaching Music in school. This year it is being celebrated on October 2nd and I aim to help promote Kids Music Day through this blog and other means. This is my first post regarding Kids Music Day to provide people with awareness before the week and then I aim to publish something different each day on the week leading up to Kids Music Day to highlight the importance

Music and EPQ

Image
Music and EPQ In A Levels, some schools provide students with the opportunity to do an EPQ which is an Extended Project Qualification that is worth half an A Level. There’s many pros and cons of doing an EPQ so I thought I’d tell you all a bit about it, tell you what I chose to do and any tips for future EPQ projects. What is an EPQ? As mentioned, an EPQ is an Extended Project Qualification. It is completely separate to the subjects you study at A Level and a large majority of it is all independent work. There are different types of EPQ such as writing a dissertation (that’s the one that I did), an artefact, a performance or a group project. I’ll be discussing the dissertation section of the EPQ as that’s what I did and so don’t know much about the others. You can choose to base your EPQ on absolutely anything you want (music, witchcraft, theatre, sports - the list is endless) as long as there is relevant research already out there that you can use. Pros and Cons of an EPQ: ✔️ Univer

Molly's Music "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything"                                        ~Plato  Welcome to my new blog, all about music. I thought I'd begin my blogging journey by telling you about myself and future plans.  So Who Am I? My name is Molly and I am currently a High School student in my final years of A Levels. I currently study English Literature, Music and History with plans of going to university to study Music further (with a particular interest in composition and well being).  I am a big lover of all things Music. My favourite genres are Musical Theatre, Indie Pop, Classic oldies (Motown) and of course Disney. Some of my favourite artists include Rex Orange County, Decklan McKenna, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Aretha Franklin, Carole King and so many more. As a musician, I am currently Grade 7 on the Flute but also sing and play some piano. I decided to start a blog about Music so t
